The Gilded Horse

Collectables & Garden Items

The Gilded Horse Shop will be located in the Carriage House behind the Cushing House at 98 High Street. Inside you will find abundant treasures and interesting collectables.

The History of the Gilded Horse goes back many years. Wilhelmina Lunt was Curator of the Cushing House Museum from 1971 to 1986, and she also operated an antique shop on the Upper Green in Newbury called The Gilded Horse.

Wilhelmina had a particular love for the garden and grounds of 98 High Street. She especially enjoyed a small, unassuming structure between the main house and the lane. This "necessary" or privy as we more commonly refer to it, is perhaps one of the last few remaining outbuildings of its type extant in Newburyport today. At this time, the privy is in need of a considerable amount of restoration.

In Wilhelmina's honor, her sister Sylvia has generously donated seed money needed to get this worthy project underway. Additional funds raised through the sale of donated items at the Gilded Horse Gift shop during this year's Garden Tour will help us reach our goal in restoring the building which will include a new handicapped accessible facility and kitchen.

Please make sure to stop by the Gilded Horse to check out the treasures while enjoying this year's Garden Tour.
